Harnessing Your Word of the Year for Healthy Habits
As we step into a fresh chapter of possibility, setting a guiding intention can make all the difference in staying on track with our health goals. I often encourage my patients to choose a “word of the year”—a single word that becomes your compass, gently steering you toward alignment with your best self.
This year, my word is concentration. This quote inspired me:
“Concentrate all your thoughts upon the work at hand. The sun’s rays do not burn until brought to a focus.” ~Alexander Graham Bell
Concentration is my reminder to stay focused on the habits that will make a difference in my vitality and health: nourishing meals, joyful movement, quality sleep, and being present and mindful! Concentration means giving my full attention to the choices that nurture me, even amidst the busyness of life.
Other words I considered just happened to also start with a “C” You might resonate with these empowering words and choose courage, clarity, or consistency. Courage inspires boldness—whether trying a new fitness class, speaking your truth, or letting go of what no longer serves you. Clarity helps you discern what truly matters, cutting through the noise of distractions. And consistency? It’s the secret sauce for sustainable success in health and beyond.
Whatever word you choose, -- whether it starts with a “C” or any other letter -- let it act as your ally. Write it on a sticky note, use it as a phone screensaver, or weave it into an affirmation:
I demonstrate single-minded concentration on the task at hand, all day and every day.
When life’s challenges arise (because they always do), your word will remind you of your commitment and bring you back to your center.
So, take a moment to reflect. What word will guide you toward your healthiest, most vibrant self this year? Make it one that inspires you, sparks excitement, and gets you going.
Cheers to a year of intentional growth and radiant health!
